Assets Annex - What, when to file
Have you heard about the Asset Annex filing requirement for Ecuador? It is mandatory for any of you who had assets in Ecuador and abroad from Jan 1, 2021 to December 31,2021, including Property inside and outside of Ecuador, ALL investments and bank accounts inside and outside of Ecuador of $200,000 or more; $400,000 for married couples. No need to pay taxes but you must file to avoid fines. This is due in May as part of an agreement to share information between the U.S. and Ecuador that was signed in 2021. There are some things that need to be done before filing in May, such as getting your SRI password.
UPDATE: The SRI, through resolution No. NAC-DGERCGC22-00000019 has extended the filing date for the Asset Annex for 2021 to December, 2022

Is your business affected by a new law?
Have you heard of the new law affecting “popular businesses and entrepreneurs” operating in Ecuador that was approved last year and is currently in force?
The “Régimen Simplificado para Emprendedores y Negocios Populares – RIMPE may affect you. It’s a “Simplified Regimen for Entrepreneurs and Popular Businesses.
Here are some questions you should ask about your business to see if you are affected by this tax law:
- Do you have a RUC?
- Do you know if you will have to pay a yearly tax fee?
- Are you required to file IVA monthly, biyearly, or not at all?
The new tax law applies for individuals who have a RUC and is divided in two categories: Popular Business and Entrepreneur.
While popular businesses will only have to pay a fixed rate for Income Tax, Entrepreneurs will have to file IVA weekly and pay Income Tax depending on yearly earnings.
For more information, and to see which category you fall under, feel free to contact me.
Do I have to file for Ecuadorian Income Tax?
If your Ecuadorian income (including income from abroad but deposited in your Ecuadorian bank account) during 2021 exceeded $11,212.00, you must file your Income Taxes in Ecuador. If you earned income overseas that was not deposited in an Ecuadorian bank, this income is not currently subject to Ecuadorian taxes.
Don’t wait until the last minute and avoid fines.

About Me
elcome to ACCRO CORP. My name is Jessica Figueroa, I am a CPA graduated from the University of Azuay – I am what they call here an inmigrante retornado. Yes, I used to live in Minneapolis, MN, US. and yes, and I miss the snow!
I lived in the United States for about 10 years, I arrived when I was 15 years old and returned to Ecuador when I was 24. I finished my studies there and decided to come back to my country – where most of you might agree – it’s a paradise.
And if you were wondering where the name came from, well it’s a combination of two very important things.
AC Stands for Accounting and a variety of meanings within this field, and RO = Rosario, who was my grandma – to me – a clear example of a hardworking, honest, responsible, and humble woman to whom I aspire to emulate.

When I discovered an unexpected debt on my municipal account, I requested assistance from Jessica. I wasn’t sure what it was about or even if it was a valid debt. Jessica asked for the information required and within 24 hours had investigated and verified the debt. She was quick and accurate. She also warned me about a law I might have overlooked – “if you have assets for more than $200.000 or $400.000 combined with your husband you must file the Assets Annex, you don’t have to pay any taxes. It is just informative to avoid fines.” And also that “all public payments in Ecuador (IESS, Municipality) must be paid online, that is if the amount is more than $76, you can not go to the bank clerk to make the payment. It must be through online banking or Credit Card.”
Jessica speaks English fluently and has helped numerous expats in Ecuador and the U.S. reconcile their tax questions. Don’t hesitate to contact her.
